Meaning Awareness is an attempt to recognize the psychological tendency of human beings to defend the meanings they have internalized and to preserve a sense of themselves as “being right.” It does not mean imposing a new set of values on others. Rather, it begins by examining what kinds of meanings we ourselves have internalized, and how those meanings shape our sense of correctness and legitimacy. If many people could develop this capacity for recognition, I believe that at least some of the many problems accumulated in society might begin to move toward resolution a little sooner.
